Vento Não Batas À Porta
(Florêncio de Carvalho)

Vento não batas à porta
Que ela julga que sou eu
Saudades da mocidade
De um amor que já morreu

Não vás contar tuas mágoas
Às pedrinhas do ribeiro
Chorando ao pé de quem chora
Chora a gente o dia inteiro

Wind, don't knock at the door
For she thinks it's me
Memories (1) from the (2) youth
Of a love that has already died

Do not tell your sorrows
To the little pebbles of the stream
Crying by those who weep
We cry all the day

1. The word "saudade" is unstranslatable. It is "longing", "yearning", "homesickness" and "blues" combined, and more. Basically, it is a feeling of missing something very much, particurly intense, and often associated with things you'll never see again, like college days or youth days, or dead people and faraway places. On this situation, it implies not only a missing, but a remembrance, hence "memories".

2. The source text doesn't clarify who's feeling "saudades": the author, the woman or both of them.
